What is TB-500?
The fragment studied by Rahaman and colleagues is Ac-LKKTETQ, including an N-terminal acetyl modification. Full-length thymosin beta-4 is a 43-residue peptide. The sequence, terminal chemistry, molecular specification and analytical reference should resolve which material an experiment or catalog actually means; the words TB-500 alone do not resolve that distinction.
What has mechanism research studied?
The full-length thymosin beta-4 literature includes actin-related biology and cell-migration experiments. That context helps explain the interest in related fragments, but biological activity is not automatically preserved when a sequence is shortened or chemically modified.
Metabolism introduces another identity layer. A parent compound and a breakdown product can behave differently in an assay. A result attributed loosely to TB-500 may therefore require checking both the starting material and what was present during the measurement.

Findings worth reading closely
The fragment and its metabolites were not interchangeable
The 2024 study distinguished the Ac-LKKTETQ parent from metabolites and reported a wound-assay signal for one metabolite rather than the parent in its experiment.
Keep in view: An assay result and metabolite profile do not establish a clinical effect or equivalence with full-length thymosin beta-4.
Full-length thymosin beta-4 has a separate experimental record
Malinda and colleagues reported changes in wound-associated endpoints and cell migration while studying thymosin beta-4.
Keep in view: This was research on the full-length peptide, not a validation of every material sold under the TB-500 label.

What remains unresolved?
- What exact material does a given supplier mean by TB-500? An incomplete label can prevent an otherwise careful literature comparison from answering the intended question.
- How much of an observed response is attributable to the starting peptide, a metabolite, or a feature of the assay? Analytical sampling and biological measurements need to be considered together.
- These two selected studies are not a direct head-to-head comparison of all possible fragments and full-length preparations. They should not be converted into an efficacy ranking or a claim about a specific supplier's lot.
Stability, storage & material identity
Require sequence and modification details before selecting an analytical identity reference. A nominal mass without the molecular form and method context is incomplete.
The selected studies do not establish a universal shelf life for products labeled TB-500. Keep product-specific storage documentation separate from literature on metabolism or biological activity.

Questions, answered.
Is TB-500 always the same as thymosin beta-4?
No single equivalence should be assumed. The cited 2024 study specifies an acetylated seven-residue fragment, while the 1999 wound paper studies thymosin beta-4. Resolve identity from the actual sequence and modification.
Can the fragment and its metabolites share one evidence label?
They should be distinguished. The analytical study separated the parent and metabolites and found different assay behavior, illustrating why the tested chemical species matters.
